8 Best Android Privacy and Security Apps

Privacy & Security Apps for Android

If you're looking for recommendations about Android security suite or other malware-scanning software, you've come to the wrong place.

Why? Because, most people who study Android closely, I do not recommend using all those types of apps. Android malware is not a large-scale real-world threat, which is often excluded, and Google Play Protect and other native Android features are more than enough to protect most devices.

However, there are some areas where third-party applications can add valuable layers to your Android security picture. They are less about fighting theoretical boogeymen and are constantly about protecting their accounts and data.

These are actions that will actually promote privacy and security on your Android device, and the apps I would suggest installing for each:

1-Hushed

Millennials can forget that their smartphones actually double as phones, where voice calls begin on the wireless telecommunications network, not just WhatsApp. After saying that, it is a pain when you hand over your phone number to a sales representative and then come up with a sales call.

Hashed enables you to create a burner (temporary) phone number so that your actual will remain hidden. This is perfect when you are posting an ad on Craigslist or filling out a webform. It can also be useful for creating optional caller ID, managing multiple lines for personal and business use, and eliminating the need to carry another phone.

2 - ProtonMail

Google's aggressive tracking features do not extend to just searching. Algorithms are also working within Gmail, so that Google can serve more targeted ads and sequential recommendations. But one of the most concerns about Gmail and many other popular email providers is that they are not encrypted end-to-end.

ProtonMail is a far safer alternative to Gmail and its affiliates. It was engineered by scientists at CERN and remains open source so that its code can be audited whenever needed.

The application enables you to send password-protected emails and messages that self-destruct after a certain time frame. Since all messages are encrypted, even the company cannot detect the contents of your communication.

3- Find my Device

Find My Device is a proprietary app from Google and works in the same vein as Find My iPhone. It helps detect your Android device when it is lost or if it is deactivated when stolen. You can set it to see location information, as well as it can play sound in case of earshot.

If the phone is lost, you can use the app to leave a callback number on the screen. So if a good Samaritan comes across it, they will have no problem returning it.

4- Resilio Sync

Resilio Sync is an excellent cloud storage option for privacy-minded people. You need a separate computer for this, however. The app creates a server on your computer and allows you to wirelessly sync files between your phone and your computer. You can sync the things you usually sync with documents, photos, videos, music and other files such as cloud storage. It uses AES 128-bit encryption to prevent hijacking and it never stores any data on the cloud. If you want a more powerful management tool, App Basic is free to use, but requires a single payment.

5- Glasswire

Glasswire is one of the best privacy apps. It does two things. The app monitors your data usage. This is useful for those who have metered data on their phone plans. It also shows you apps that use your data in real time. Whenever an app connects to its server or uses your data, you can watch. You can adjust your usage or application selection according to that knowledge. This is great for removing apps that use data a little too generously for your taste. The app also has some customization features for monitoring and other stuff. This is a good one, and $ 4.99 per year is basically a pocket change.

6- Smart APPlock

Swipe patterns and numeric PIN codes only serve to lock the front screen of our phone. After that, individual applications and folders can be accessed with the tap of our finger. This is not very good for safety or practicality. For example, you may need to hand over your phone to view a document, but will feel uncomfortable transferring it through personal data. Or you can allow your children to play games on their phones, but they do not want to access certain applications.

Smart AppLock enables you to change the permission settings for individual apps on your phone. This means that your third-party cannot open your WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter app until they input another password.

7-Norton Mobile Security - Antivirus & Anti Malware

Antivirus apps are not just for securing privacy. They also have the ability to detect and remove malware and spyware, which will likely knock you out of your phone or spy on your data in the future.

Norton is a well-known name in the antivirus industry and its Android app comes with great features. In addition to providing regular scanning of your device, it enables users to block unwanted calls and text messages, remotely locked devices, and detect devices when they are lost or stolen.

8- Lastpass

We have a tendency to use the same password across multiple sites and apps. After all, constantly generating new ones is a pain and the recovery process can be quite cumbersome. But the problem with this approach is that it leaves you susceptible to an egoistic hack; A compromised password means that all your social media and email accounts are in danger.

LastPass doubles as a password manager and generator that stores your personal information in a secure vault. It can also be set to automatically change passwords from time to time.
